In 1909, the famous Polish historical writer Henryk Sienkiewicz
stayed at the Batory Hotel during his last visit to the
spa.
His first visit to Szczawnica
had been recorded in 1868 when he was 22 years old. In 1879, he stayed in Szczawnica
for the second time; at that time he was already a renowned journalist and writer. "Gazeta
Lwowska", when announcing Sienkiewicz's lectures in Szczawnica (on August 2)
and in Krynica (on August 15) called him "a writer of exceptional talent."
The
third and the last visit of Sienkiewicz to the Szczawnica spa was recorded in
1909, when, being a very famous writer, he stayed at the Batory Villa with his
daughter.
